‘Better standards should only come as a result of cooperation amongst all institutions relevant to public transit”
This is what public transit specialist Ferjold Ozuni told Euronews Albania this morning, during a discussion about the issues currently facing Tirana’s public transit routes.
In addition, Ozuni accused Tirana’s City Hall of a breach-of-contract, regarding a deal signed by the state and public transit operators.
“On the one hand, they are forcing us, economic operators, to respect the standard whilst on the other hand, they hold back on giving us the funds that belong to us. It’s like a game of push-and-pull between the City Hall and transit operators,” said Ozuni.
The expert also spoke about the difficulties currently facing the public transit sector.
“They shouldn’t overlook the demands being made by operators. The current situation should be carefully supervised by all respective institutions so that we can prevent further deadlocks,” – added Ozuni.
In addition, according to the public transit specialist, the main issue revolves around the way these companies have been given their license to operate in this specific market.
“There’s an overlap of routes. Many areas are lacking, whereas others are overserved. The city or its municipal leaders should start to inspect these routes but in order to do this, we must have a dedicated budget so that we can properlyy attend to all these different issues,” – he said.
