Draughts, high import prices, and issues resulting from the war in Ukraine are contributing to further deepening the crisis.
In the period from January to February, Albania imported energy at an average price of €186 euros per megawatt, whereas starting from March, we’ve been buying it for €249 euros/megawatt.
The government has been asking citizens to start saving up on energy as much as they can, without becoming a burden for households or the small business sector.
The Fierza HEC doesn’t have enough water due to a lack of rainfall this year and it isn’t producing enough energy as a result. In fact, it’s currently at the lowest level in years.

A few days ago, PM Edi Rama warned that by the end of the year, energy could cost us up to €600 million euros, due to the massive price hike in international markets.
