During his interview on Euronews Albania this morning, economy expert Gent Beqiri, 40% of Albania’s economy is informal.
In addition, he said that we aren’t currently in full control of our market economy, seeing that this can’t be done from the office.
The expert also said that the recent state-ordered Transparency Board that is tasked with fixing the price of oil on a weekly and bi-weekly basis, is an example of populist politics.
“The market should be determined by competition and the competition should be controlled by the government,” – he said.
Beqiri also underlined that VAT tax includes two-thirds of our government’s revenue, “at a time when our budget is currently running a deficit”.
“If informality isn’t reduced, the VAT tax can’t be lowered,” – he said.
