Government leaders will be meeting later today in Kosovo in order to discuss Serbia’s decision to have ethnic Serbs living in Kosovo cast their ballot in Serbia.
Serbia will be holding its presidential and parliamentary elections on April 3, and it had prior to this decision, asked the governments of both Kosovo and Montenegro to give the green light to communities of this ethnicity living in the above-mentioned countries to cast their vote at polling stations set up at home instead of having to go to Serbia to participate in these elections.
Kosovo Serbs will now be voting in polling stations that will be set up in different communes in central Serbia.
Serbian president Alexandar Vucic said that Kosovo has asked Serbia’s government to “recognize its independence in exchange for letting Serbia hold their election in Kosovo”.
Kosovo’s prime minister, however, has publicly only maintained the stance that in order to allow Serbia to hold its elections in Kosovo, then both countries need to come to a bilateral agreement before moving forward.
