Justice Minister Ulsi Manja declared on Wednesday that the arrest warrant issued from SPAK against Socialist MP Alqi Bllako is a matter that belongs to justice.
Asked whether the Socialists must bear responsibility for the fact that one of their own will potentially end up in jail, Manja demanded a swift investigation into the case.
“In fact, your question is related to matters of justice and the stance of the government and the Socialist Party. Whenever it comes to these matters, the answer is clear: We encourage the justice system to conduct a swift and objective investigation”, said Manja.
On Tuesday, Socialist MP Alqi Bllako renounced his seat in parliament, after SPAK’s arrest warrant.
This will allow SPAK to carry out the arrest, without requiring authorization from the Albanian parliament.
Bllako is accused of corruption and abuse of the power delegated by his office, in connection to a faulty expropriation procedure at the site of the incinerator plant.
Bllako, together with then-environment minister Lefter Koka, falsified the land property documentation in order to raise the amount of compensation due.
