The Kurti administration has come out openly and determinately against the war in Ukraine.
During his participation in the Economic Forum in Greece, PM Albin Kurti stated that Serbia is a close ally to Russia, which according to him, has a vested interest in the Western Balkans.
“160 km away from Prishtina, the capital of the Republic of Kosovo, in Serbia’ Nis, there’s a Russian humanitarian center. There’s an ongoing hybrid war that includes the economy and the press. For example, immediately after the aggression and Russian invasion of Ukraine, the headlines of the Serbian press were filled with news regarding Ukraine’s invasion of Russia. On the other hand, Sputnik’s center in the Western Balkans is in Belgrade. This is why we are concerned about Russia’s hybrid war not being limited to their neighbors but spreading over to the Western Balkans as well, with Serbia being such a close ally,” – said the head of Kosovo’s government.
Kurti also emphasized that after Russia’s aggression, the EU and NATO can’t continue with the old ways and the old understanding of their expansion policies.
According to him, the old methods won’t be able to produce a strong and flexible future, but rather a weak one.
“I believe that Serbia wants European money, Russian weapons, Chinese investments, and American tolerance. But I believe that very soon, they won’t be able to sit in the same roundtables as before, and soon, they will have to make better decisions. I hope that [Serbia] can distance itself from Kremlin and that it can, at last, allow the Western Balkans to join the EU and NATO. We believe that long-term peace and stability could only be ensured through an orientation towards Brussels, which is the two-fold capital of EU and NATO,” – said Kurti.
