Pastor Akil Pano believes that our country isn’t ready for the legalization of medical marijuana, despite PM Rama publicly confirming it last week.

“As it turns out the Albanian government is ready for this next step. I’m not ready and I believe Albanians aren’t ready either,” – said Pano in an interview for Euronews Albania.

Pano was also skeptical regarding the statistics presented by the government, which said that 63% of citizens had expressed their support for the legalization of cannabis in the National Consultation survey, directed by the government.

In addition, Pano said that this survey doesn’t confirm the real sentiment of Albanian citizens.

“I believe that the statistics that have been communicated to the public as a result of a collection of data from this survey are simply numbers that don’t uncover or bring to light the sentiments of the majority of Albanian citizens. So, we are only talking about 14% of citizens who have participated in this survey, of whom 63% said they were in favor of this. So, that means only 8% of Albanian citizens are in favor of legalizing medical marijuana,” – said the pastor.

PM Rama also mentioned that citizens could be asked about the legalization of cannabis for personal use – which according to Pano, wouldn’t bring any positive results to Albanian families.
