In today’s meeting, the Transparency Board decided to bring up the price of oil and gasoline.
The retail price for 1 liter of oil is now set at 226 ALL per liter (€1.87 euros) – a considerable rise compared to the previous 219 ALL/liter (€1.83 euros).
Gasoline will now sell for 209 ALL per liter (€1.73 euros), whereas the price of gas will remain unchanged at 115 ALL per liter (€0.95 euros).
The decision is valid immediately and according to members of the board, this rise is a reflection of fluctuating prices in international markets.
The rise in the price of oil resulted in a major public backlash, which was followed by mass protests in various cities across the country.
This forced the government back in March, to set up the Transparency Board, which is meant to help keep the price of oil steady, by meeting on a weekly or bi-weekly basis to set a fixed price for fuel, after consulting with experts and important oil suppliers in the country.
