The Special Structure Against Corruption (SPAK) has sent the ex-minister of internal affairs, Saimir Tahiri’s recourse to the High Court.
SPAK has been calling for Tahiri to be convicted on charges related to drug trafficking and actively participating in a highly-structured organized crime group.
On February 4, the Special Prosecution upheld the verdict made by the First Instance Court against the former minister, except for the fact that now Tahiri will be serving a 5-year-sentence, which is converted to 3 years and 4 months after factoring in for summary conviction.
SPAK asked for a 12-year-sentence for Tahiri and the former police chief Jaeld Cela. On the other hand, Tahiri’s defense team is calling for their client to be completely acquitted on all charges.
The Court also sustained the previous verdict on the former Vlora Police chief, Jael Cela, who was also sentenced to 3 years and 4 months.
