The lack of scientific research is a fundamental issue for the university system in Albania as funding is insufficient.
This is what former deputy minister of education Mirela Karabina said during an interview for Euronews Albania.
Karabina also added that universities themselves, don’t place a lot of importance to scientific research by showing a sense of ‘underestimation’.
This, according to Karabina, hampers the country’s general economic development as a result of the lack of scientific research across all the different fields of study.
“When universities themselves, don’t place the necessary importance on this, it only goes to show that so far, scientific research hasn’t come in handy to anyone at an Albanian university. This shows that we don’t appreciate research, and that is a grave misfortunate because it means that we won’t be able to produce economic growth that is so necessary to society,” – said Karabina.
