KFOR took a harsh stance on Friday in regards to the attacks against border officers in Kosovo’s north. The NATO-led international peacekeeping force in Kosovo said that they are ready to support Kosovo Police if it will be necessary.
A KFOR official told local media KosovaPress that they expect both sides to act with maturity and avoid any further escalation.
“The KFOR Mission led by NATO strongly condemns the recent attacks against the members of the Kosovo Police. We confirm our readiness in supporting the Police of Kosovo, if it is necessary and requested on their side”, said the official, adding that the incident not only undermines Kosovo’s security, but also that of the entire region.
Four synchronized attacks against Kosovo Police officers were recorded in the last three days. The most recent was recorded this morning when a police patrol was reportedly attacked with a hand grenade and fired with an assault rifle.
There were no reported injuries as the vehicles in which the officers were patrolling were bulletproof.
