For years now, political subjects in our country have been discussing the possibility of implementing electronic voting during an election.
During the last local by-elections on March 6, Vore was the only municipality that was able to implement electronic voting and counting.
The head of the Central Electoral Commission, Ilirjan Celibashi, said that this example, along with the model of electronic voting at Tirana’s no. 10 division in the last general elections, didn’t prove to offer enough credibility that this process will be able to be implemented in the entire country.
“If political parties and the current administration have a vested interest and want to see the implementation of electronic voting in the entire Albanian territory, this decision will have to be made as soon as possible. Otherwise, CEC won’t have the necessary time to implement it in the entire territory,” – said the head of CEC.
Faced with the present situation, Celibashi said that the best solution would be to experiment with electronic voting only in certain municipalities during the upcoming local elections set to take place during the summer of 2023.
“We could be able to implement it in a given number of municipalities and in my judgment, I believe this would be the best solution,” – said Celibashi.
