The High Court rejected on Friday a request sent from Adriatik Llalla to suspend his prison sentence amid claims that he suffers from a serious illness.
The verdict was read by judges Ilir Panda, Sander Simoni, and Sokol Binaj.
“Surprisingly, the Italian court recognized the right to know about the health condition of an Albanian citizen, the Albanian court did not suspend him,” said Llalla’s lawyer while commenting on today’s court decision.
A few months ago, the Special Court of Appeals upheld the sentence of 2 years in prison for former Chief Prosecutor Adriatik Llalla.
Llalla was found guilty of hiding his income in connection with the expenses for the birth of his son in the US, which according to prosecutors had a cost of $7,000 USD.
He was arrested in December 2021 in Italy and has not been extradited to Albania, yet.
