Doctors and nurses flee Albania by the day over low salaries, however the government does not seem to hold back when it comes to foreign medical workers.
The Fier hospital, an investment of the Turkish government, was inaugurated a year ago.
Together with the investment, the hospital was supposed to bring in Turkish medical staff.
However, the Turkish staff is getting a monthly salary almost three times higher than their Albanian colleagues.
Euronews Albania drew a comparison between the salaries of Albanian and Turkish medical staff.
A Turkish doctor receives €2,500, a chief nursing officer around €1,900, and a nurse €1,500.
Meanwhile, an Albanian doctor gets paid around €660, a chief nursing officer €460, and a nurse €440
In addition, the hospital opened a €300,000 tender to provide accommodation for its staff for a year.
According to the contract, the maximum number of staff to be accommodated at the hotel is 38.
According to Open Data, the hospital of Fier has opened until now 25 tenders for the purchase of medication, and medical equipment, with anticipated costs reaching around €400,000.
Meanwhile, the largest amount of the money tendered by this hospital is for fuel, about €600,000, 700,000 for janitorial services, and another €300,000 for food.
