Massive immigration of Albanian citizens could lead to gaps in our workforce, in each sector by 2030, according to a recent study.

Employment expert, Kosta Barjaba and head of the Farmers Union, Eduart Sharka, went head-to-head during Euronews Albania’s ‘Morning’ show.

Bajraba asked Sharka about the reason why he doesn’t raise his employees’ wages so that they don’t end up having to leave the country, to which Sharka answered by saying that this can only be decided by the different economic equilibriums.

Snipped from the debate:

Kosta Bajraba: Have you employed any farmers yourself?

Eduart Sharka: Yes, I do.

Kosta Bajraba: Why don’t you raise their salaries? I hear from entrepreneurs that in Albania wages aren’t going up. Wages can’t be brought up by the government but by the economy. Wages go up relative to how much the economy is able to produce.

Eduart Sharka: Reforms are undertaken by the government, however.

Kosta Bajraba: Raise your employee’s wages and the economy will also grow.

According to Bajraba, our country has a significant lack of specialists and doctors, and we need to encourage a higher number of graduate doctors.

Meanwhile, Sharka said that many employees are coming from Bangladesh due to the migration of Albanian citizens.
