Chief of the Epidemiological Department at the Public Health Institute, Silva Bino, has announced that no cases of acute hepatitis have been registered in our country so far.

During a meeting of the Technical Experts Committee, Bino said that the World Health Organization (WHO) sent an announcement around 3 weeks ago, in regards to the spread of this type of hepatitis.

“It’s been around 3 weeks since we received an announcement by WHO. We’ve communicated with the entire structure. We don’t have any data on our country yet. The majority of cases have been registered in the United Kingdom, where the virus was first spotted and the United States. There are still doubts on its etiology – one of which could be an accompanying infection of adenovirus 41 and coronavirus. However, this continues to be a hypothesis,” – said Bino.

Bino also underlined that healthcare authorities are on alert but at the moment, there are no signs of concern.

A few days ago, WHO declared that around 169 cases of acute hepatitis in children ages 1 month – to 16 years old had been identified.

Acute hepatitis has now been identified in 11 countries around the globe.
