A citizen has to wait up to 16 years to get an answer or resolution from Tirana’s District Appeals Court.
A reason for this is the lack of judges as a result of the mass terminations due to the vetting process, but also because of the large number of cases that have been piling up on the shelves.
This issue was published as a result of a report made by the High Judicial Council at the end of 2021, which claimed that the Appeal court in the capital city has more than 17 000 casefiles in stock.
The situation became even more serious after a report this month, which claimed that the number of cases in stock has now reached 20 thousand.
There are currently 8 judges serving at Tirana’s District Appeals Court out of the 31 that should be serving in these functions.
Things could get even worse as 3 judges have appealed their vetting and could be discharged.
The total number of cases waiting to be processed in Appeals Courts across the country reaches 29 thousand.
The same situation can be seen at Tirana’s Administrative Appeals Court, which covers the entire Albanian territory.
In order to receive a verdict from this court, a citizen has to wait up to 21 years, as the number of cases on file at this court was 18 500, based on a report conducted early this year.
There are currently 5 judges at the Administrative Appeals Court, of the total 13 that are needed.
