Criminology expert, Artan Rexhepi talks about the ways by which a possibly staged suicide can be recognized by officials and that the case of 31-year-old, Ilvi Meta’s death at Kavaja’s Police station last Tuesday, can be easily solved.
During an interview for Euronews Albania’s ‘Today’ with Jonida Shehu, the expert said that in cases when a person hangs himself, there are clearly identifiable marks that can be seen around his or her neck that are caused by the strangulation.
Along with these marks, authorities can also see the presence of discharge from the victim’s mouth.
“If he was executed and died as a result of abuse or other factors and his suicide was staged, then it is easily identifiable. First of all, the strangulation lien around the victim’s neck should be visible, if he killed himself, along with discharge from his mouth,” – said the expert.
Rexhepi also maintained that in such cases, when the police are suspected of having committed a crime, the investigation team should work independently.
