The head of SP’s Parliamentary Group, Taulant Balla, declared that the first round of the election for the new president will take place on May 16, at 17:00.

Balla confirmed that news this Tuesday during the meeting of the Conference of Leaders at the Albanian Parliament.

According to Balla, May 16, is an appropriate date that complies with the time limits set by the Constitution.

“I stand by the proposal to hold the first round on May 16. I believe that this date is appropriate and within the time limits set forth by the Constitution,” – said Balla.

Meanwhile, Socialist MP Klotilda Bushka proposed that the deadline for the submission of the president’s candidatures be on May 15, at 16:00.

Her other proposal was to hold the meeting of the Commission of Laws on May 16, at 10:00.

The Leaders Conference should have been held on May 4, but it was postponed following a request made by the head of DP’s parliamentary group, Enkelejd Alibeaj.
