Kosovo’s minister of foreign affairs, Donika Gervalla, has submitted her country’s application to become a member of the European Council, this Thursday on May 12.
Gervalla was also said to have personally handed Kosovo’s application in today, in Strasburg.
The news was confirmed through a Tweet posted by the chief of cabinet at Kosovo’s ministry of foreign affairs and the diaspora, Sharr Jakupi.
Kosovo’s government held an extraordinary online meeting this Thursday, during which, it adopted the initiative for the country’s membership in the European Council.
Since the beginning of the War in Ukraine back in February, Kosovo leaders have been saying that they will apply to join as many international organizations as possible, as they feel threatened of meeting a similar fate to Ukraine.
Meanwhile, Serbian President Alexandar Vucic has reacted by saying that “Prishtina has brutally violated the Washington Agreement, the Brussels Agreement and Resolution no. 1244”.
