For the past 3 days, the Macedonian Parliament has been nearly non-functional, due to the block being imposed by the main opposition party VMRO DPMNE.
This party is insisting on holding snap parliamentary elections and it has claimed sure victory, whereas the party currently in power – LSDM – has refused this request by saying that now is not the right time to hold an election.
According to LSDM, the country needs a stable administration that should be able to manage the current economic crisis while also continuing North Macedonia’s Euro-Atlantic journey. In addition, they’ve also maintained that holding a new election will gravely damage the country.
The active block of work in Parliament is a tactic that is being used by the opposition in order to send the country into snap parliamentary elections.
The opposition came out victorious in the recent local elections, which is why they feel confident of winning a possible snap election, while also calling the current administration non-legitimate.
Other opposition parties have also joined the initiative of holding snap elections in North Macedonia, but they don’t agree with actions undertaken by VMRO DPMNE.
