The Special Appeals Court against Corruption and Organized Crime has decided to not change the verdict made by the lower court to keep former Socialist MP Alqi Bllako in prison.

The decision was announced this Saturday by Judge Iliriana Olldashi during an appeal hearing that has been requested by Bllako and his defense team.

The former MP has requested to be released from prison.

He was arrested following a SPAK order on April 1, after he relinquished his mandate as member of parliament which provided him with some legal immunity.

According to SPAK’s investigation, Bllako is being suspected of abuse of power and corruption involving the Fier incinerator affair.

Based on official reports, Bllako who at the time was Secretary General at the Ministry of Environment and later General Director of the National Water Supply Agency, had favoured the concessionary firm Integrated Technology Waste Treatment Fier, in exchange for around 15 million ALL.
