Albert Troci – an Albanian doctor living and working in Italy, said that there are currently 4 known cases of the monkeypox virus discovered in Italy, 3 of them in Rome and 1 close to the Aretti hospital.

In addition, Troci said that infected patients have come back to Italy from places where they went on vacation and attended parties, where the disease started to spread.

Troci also noted that what’s most concerning is the fact that the monkeypox virus is spreading amongst patients who haven’t directly been in contact or traveled to countries in Africa, where the disease is endemic.

Healthcare authorities have expressed their concern in regards to the fact that they haven’t yet been informed on whether or not the virus has experienced any mutations, or if it’s the same virus that is acting differently.

The doctor continued by saying that there are two main classes of the virus, one that has been isolated in West Africa which has a lower mortality rate and another in Western Africa.

This virus is more stable because it is connected to our DNA and presents fewer defects during replication, and there’s a vaccine for this disease known as MVABN and an antiviral medicament named Tekovirimad.

Arben Vishaj, an infectious disease expert, said that measures taken in Kosovo by the National Public Health Institute, include respecting the protocols currently introduced abroad.
