Even though it’s been just a few days since former PM Sali Berisha was elected as the new leader of the Democratic Party, many Democratic MPs remain divided.
At the moment, 2 separate meetings are taking place at DP’s headquarters. Berisha has called a group of MPs to a meeting, as so has DP’s caucus leader, Enkelejd Alibeaj.
Since 10:30 am this morning, Alibeaj has been holding a meeting with 20 MPs of DP’s parliamentary group, where they are discussing in regards to the third round of voting meant to elect the new head of state.
Alibeaj has declared that he will be communicating to these MPs the news of the termination of the agreement between DP’s caucus and the Socialist majority.
A few days ago, Alibeaj said that the process had turned into a farse. He accused Socialists of violating the agreement that was reached a few weeks ago.
In total, DP’s caucus is made up of 47 MPs.
