The current geopolitical situation in Europe has been followed by several dramatic developments in the energy sector in many European countries that are at a race against time to become independent of Russian gas.
These developments have had an impact on Western Balkan states, where energy capacities are still insufficient in terms of meeting the local demand.
Meanwhile, Serbia has reached a gas deal with Russia, thus becoming one of the few countries that refuse to impose sanctions on Moscow, following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
This decision was widely criticized in Kosovo, which doesn’t currently have access to the international gas market, lacks infrastructure, and doesn’t possess any natural gas reserves.
