Security expert, Fatjon Softa, stated that what took place this Thursday in Vermosh, when two senior citizens were robbed in their own homes was a very serious incident that should be a cause for concern.
During his interview on Euronews Albania’s ‘Today’, Softa said that the state is the one to blame in this case because citizens feel unsafe in their own homes.
“I blame the state for one reason: citizens feel unsafe in their own homes. Secondly, guns are proliferating instead of being collected. If the burglars had entered this home with rudimentary devices, then we might have not blamed the state. But, for as long as they were holding guns, it shows that our government has surrendered instead of gathering and collecting these weapons from criminal groups,” – said Softa.
According to the expert, the weapons amnesty system hasn’t worked, as it has clearly not helped in preventing similar incidents – something which shows that our government hasn’t done its job in identifying the different criminal groups that possess weapons.
The senior victim from Vermosh, Miri Tinaj, recounted the difficult moments when his home was broken into by the burglars during the early morning hours.
She stated that 2 armed and masked men entered her building and stole cash, a car and several pieces of gold jewelry.
