EU’s Special Envoy for the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue, Miroslav Lajcak gave an exclusive interview for Euronews Albania, during which he declared that in the upcoming week, an important agreement between Kosovo and Serbia could be reached.
During an interview with journalist Benjamin Arifi, Lajcak didn’t specify exactly what this agreement could be about, but he said that a third high-level meeting between Chief Negotiators and possibly PM Albin Kurti and President Alexander Vucic will be taking place before the summer break.
Lajcak was also asked about negotiations between Albania and the EU.
According to EU’s Special Envoy, Albania has fulfilled all conditions in order to start the accession negotiation but, the issue he said, lies with the European Union.
“I have to accept with all sincerity, that the problem is with our side – with the European Union – because we still haven’t reached a consensus within the block,” – said the high diplomat.
Lajcak also emphasized that both parties need to work harder in order to reach this consensus and that at this point, cooperation does much more good to the integration cause than criticism and complaints.
In addition, Lajcak also spoke on visa liberalization for Kosovo and the possibility of an agreement being reached within June.
“There is no doubt that Kosovo has met all conditions necessary to lift the visa regime and the issue once again lies with the lack of consensus. But I can say that this issue is being brought up much more often by member states during meetings of various European bodies, which is why I think that it’s coming. I don’t dare say a date but it’s definitely coming” – said Lajcak.
The diplomat emphasized that he can’t give a specific date but that he is convinced that the moment for visa liberalization in Kosovo is very close.
