Shkodra drivers head to Montenegro for cheaper diesel

Higher prices at home are forcing residents of Shkoder and surrounding areas to flock to close-by Montenegro to fill up their tanks.

Over the weekend, long lines formed in front of Montenegrin gas stations that went on for at least several kilometers.

For these citizens and many others, oil prices in Albania have become unaffordable.

For tour operators who have to transport tourists from one point to another, business has become difficult to the point where many of them could face bankruptcy.

After oil prices started to jump up in the global markets, Montenegro brought down its excise tax by 50%, which brought down the price of fuel considerably.

For Albanians, Montenegro has turned into an affordable solution for high oil prices in the country.

Albania ranks 10th in the entire world for its high petrol prices.
