Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic reiterated ahead of the meeting with EU leaders in Brussels that the members of the Open Balkan countries decided to attend the meeting in order to discuss their European future.

According to Vucic, some EU member countries ‘wanted to block opening negotiations with North Macedonia and Albania’ and that is the reason why the three leaders discussed this on Wednesday.

“We discussed that, but we’re here to discuss our European future. We believe we’re going to have some good conclusions for the Western Balkans”, he said.

Vucic emphasized that his expectations are grim, although he remains ‘profoundly grateful’ to the bloc and will continue to believe in Serbia’s European future.

Asked about Serbia’s stance on Russia, Vucic stated that the country has already voted against the incursion at the UN General Assembly.

“We do support the territorial integrity of Ukraine, as we do support the territorial integrity of Serbia, which is not the case with many EU member states”, he said.
