MP Bardhyl Kollcaku spoke to Euornews Albania about the reasons why NATO is interested in setting up military bases in Albania.

While commenting on the prospect of NATO building a military base in Porto Romano in Durres, Kollcaku said that the countries which border Albania are all under the influence of the Russian government.

According to him, in Greece and Bulgaria, there is a Russian presence and assets and this is one of the reasons why NATO is looking to add more bases in our country.

“If we look at our southern border, we have Greece and the Pireus Base which is 100% controlled by the Chinese. The Thessaloniki base is 70% controlled by Russian assets, the Port of Varna in Bulgaria as well as the Constance, have a Russian presence. Durres is adding not only to security but also to providing shorter land access for forces and artillery that could be used to strengthen the alliance’s eastern border. With the new decision, we can expect to see more bases added as well,” – said Kollcaku.
