Former minister of interior Saimir Tahiri, who is currently serving a 3.4-year-prison sentence has been transferred from the prison of Fier to the one in Lushnje.

His transfer was executed after the request of his family members for reasons that haven’t been disclosed.

The former minister has been in prison since the month of February when he was convicted by the Appeals Court on charges of abuse of power.

Earlier, Tahiri had applied for his prison sentence to be suspended at the High Court, with claims that his life was in danger but his request was ultimately rejected.

The ex-minister is also awaiting a court decision on charges of drug trafficking and organized crime after SPAK appealed GJJKO’s decision.
