The Macedonian Parliament will convene again today and try to adopt the draft of the French proposal, following a failed attempt during yesterday’s plenum.

Meanwhile, the opposition is continuing its protests since last night when 10 citizens were arrested.

Numerous MPs have requested time to address parliament therefore a longer session is expected to take place today.

During a meeting, he had yesterday with the president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, the Macedonian president Stevo Penderovksi, reaffirmed his stance that the adoption of the French proposal would enable the start of the accession negotiations – a process, which has been blocked due to disputes between Bulgaria and North Macedonia.

Penderovksi also emphasized however that the Macedonian language and identity must be respected and guaranteed by the European Union.

The Macedonian government has supported the French proposal so far but the opposition hasn’t, and it has been protesting for the past 2 weeks, claiming that it puts the country’s language and national identity in danger.
