EU’s Commissioner on Enlargement and Neighborhood, Oliver Varhelyi, told Euronews Albania that the sooner Albania walks on the path towards the EU, the sooner will European institutions move towards its integration with full rights.
Varhelyi told Euronews Albania’s reporter Sonil Frasheri, that the European Commission will make its proposals as soon as possible.
“Time estimation. This is in a way, the usual journalistic rhetoric. I don’t want to offend anyone but there is a question that actually makes sense and it is this one: Anytime we see that Albania is ready and every time we see that it can move faster, we will move faster. The Commission will make its proposals as soon as possible and this will happen. As soon as we can,” – he said.
This Tuesday, the first Intergovernmental Conference between Albania and the European Union took place in Brussels.
The opening of negotiations means that a technical process will begin that will include a thorough examination of the entire Albania administration and its legislation so that it can come as close to resembling the EU legislation as possible.
