Foreign minister, Olta Xhacka, gave her remarks at the roundtable following the official opening of negotiation between Albania, North Macedonia, and the European Union.

Xhacka stated that Albania is well aware that there is still a lot that needs to be done, but that the opening of accession talks returns people’s trust in the process of EU integration.

“Even though we know that a very demanding and challenging process awaits us, we are ready, our determination is steadfast and we have worked hard to get here. We are aware that there’s still a lot that needs to be done.

However, the official opening of negotiations returns people’s trust in the process of EU integration and along with it, it generated motivation and extraordinary determination for what we are sure will give the process much important positive energy,” – said the minister.

This Tuesday, the first IGC between Albania and the European Union took place in Brussels.

The opening of accession talks will be followed by a technical process that will start with a thorough examination of the Albanian administration as well as its legislation so that it can resemble the EU legislation as closely as possible.
