PM Edi Rama has debunked the news that has been making headlines recently about the hackers destroying important government data and allegedly asking for €30 million euros to give it back.
Through a post on his Twitter account, the head of the Albanian government called on journalists to stop spreading panic.
“Trials against the press for defamation are not our style! This is why, I’m making a public call to Top Channel, to immediately stop the wave of fake news and panic in connection to the cybernetic aggression against Albania!
The news that the hackers are asking for a 30-million-euro fine or news that state data has been destroyed is completely false! The government has informed the public as much as it can be informed. Meanwhile, the war isn’t over and who’s standing behind these hackers is another country, not some wacky digital gang that deals with fines!” – wrote Rama.
He underlined that AKSHI and a specialized team of foreign experts are currently working day in and day out on the complete recovery of systems in a record time.
