With the initiative of the MP of the Self-Determination Movement (LVV), Tinka Kurti, the Parliament of Kosovo will soon have a special room dedicated to breastfeeding for women MPs and other workers of this institution.
In addition to the assistance offered to these women in Parliament, Kurti told Radio Free Europe that the objective is for this initiative to be followed by other public and private institutions.
“The initiative came as a result of a round table discussion held by women MPs on the topic of the importance of breastfeeding and one of the recommendations was for a separate room. We decided to start it from our Parliament, by adapting a room for mothers and children. The idea is to turn it into a model for other institutions wherever there are women who need to breastfeed their children. The same thing is recommended by WHO and UNICEF, and both have supported the request that I sent to the president of the assembly, who has responded positively to this initiative”, said Kurti.
The LVV lawmaker has also highlighted that this endeavor shouldn’t be misinterpreted as an initiative against breastfeeding in public but as an opportunity for women to feel more comfortable as well as the children.
