6 million dollars will be spent by the Civil Defense Agency, an institution under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Defense, for monitoring the territory by satellite for a period of three years.
The contracting authority has declared the American company “Satellogic USA” Inc. the winner of this tender.
According to the public procurement law, this type of procedure is confidential because the company will not make public the information provided, including technical or commercial secrets and additional confidential features of the bids and requests for participation.
Moreover, the tender of the Civil Defense Agency is considered a contract in the field of defense and security, which means that information shared with the public will remain limited.
Based on the research conducted by Euronews Albania, it seems that the company Satellogic USA” Inc. is focused on the observation of satellite images of the earth, with the goal of encouraging better decision-making.
They have stated that they want to help solve the world’s pressing problems such as food, energy and how the environment is changing.
All of this requires greater access to high-resolution satellite imagery and other data, states their official website.
This tender comes at a time when the Civil Defense Agency has been faced with a difficult situation with numerous wildfires and political accusations about how they were managed.
A report by the High State Control stated that the Civil Defense Agency is unable to assess these types of disasters and that there is also a lack of tools and human resources.
