Albania’s Foreign Minister, Olta Xhaçka, in a statement for the press media, has also commented on our country’s severance of diplomatic relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran.

She said the investigations carried out by international specialized agencies have admitted that the attack was ordered and executed by Iran, while also adding that it was without a doubt, an unprovoked attack against a NATO member state.

“Investigations by specialized agencies have admitted that the attack was carried out by Iran. An unprovoked attack on a NATO member state. The severance of diplomatic relations is a drastic step, especially for those of us who believe in dialogue, but unfortunately, the aggressiveness of the attack and the scale of the attack, did not leave room for any other type of a decision,” said the minister.

Xhacka indicated that NATO allies and EU partners were consulted before coming to this decision.

The Albanian government announced on Wednesday morning that it has decided to freeze diplomatic relations with Iran after it was confirmed that this country was behind the cyber-attack that rattled Albania a few weeks ago. Prime Minister Edi Rama has requested that the diplomatic staff of the embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran leave our country within the next 24 hours.
