Director of the Civil Aviation Authority: The cyberattack on Rinas was an act of sabotage

The director of the Civil Aviation Authority, Maksim Et’hemaj, said that the cyberattack on the TIMS system at Rinas airport was an act of sabotage.

In an interview for Euronews Albania, Et’hemaj said that civil aviation requested the establishment of the Crisis Coordination Committee to deal with the situation.

“In civil aviation, what happened with the TIMS system is classified by the definition, sabotage. Any intentional action and the result obtained as a result of this intentional action, classify the event as sabotage, that is, it is an event in sabotage.

In such cases, in cases of sabotage, civil aviation asks the local authorities to set up what is called the Crisis Coordination Committee. We are talking about an abnormal, unusual situation. There was an abnormal disconnection of services. When we were notified, the Committee was activated”, he emphasized.

The Ministry of the Interior and the Border and Migration Directorate have confirmed that the TIMS system at the “Mother Teresa” International Airport is fully back in operation this morning, after the work carried out by IT experts, together with allies.

Prime Minister Edi Rama announced Saturday morning that Iranian hackers have attacked the TIMS system.
