The Democratic MP, Jorida Tabaku, shared with the press, details about her meeting with US ambassador, Yuri Kim, and other representatives from political parties.

During a brief communication with the press at the end of the meeting, Tabaku said that the main topic of discussion was the questionable funding from Russia and China for various political parties, as well as the reformation of Albanian political forces.

“We discussed about the need to reform political parties, to finance political parties, not only as a criterion for the European integration process, but at the same time, as a very important element towards providing transparency and staying away from the influence of Russia, China and Iran in our region”, she said.

This meeting comes at a time when the date of next spring’s local elections is expected to be announced. Meanwhile, a few weeks ago, the Special Prosecutor’s Office asked the CEC for an official form in order to allow their investigation on Ilir Meta to continue.

Meanwhile, the US ambassador’s visit at the CEC comes a day after news started circulating in the foreign media that according to an American intelligence insider, Russia had secretly funded the Democratic Party back in 2017, through a transfer of around $500 thousand dollars.

Lulzim Basha, who was chairman of the Democratic Party at the time, reacted to this issue yesterday by refusing the claims and emphasizing that the DP hasn’t received any kind of foreign funding, much less so from Russia.
