To help the special anti-corruption structure, a team from the American anti-drug agency (DEA) has arrived in Albania.

The news was announced by the embassy of the United States of America in Tirana, where diplomat Yuri Kim met with Brendan Leddy, one of the special agents of the DEA.

“Special Agent Leddy together with additional DEA personnel will cooperate closely with SPAK and Albanian law enforcement counterparts to strengthen the partnership in international operations against narcotics and organized crime,” the embassy writes.

According to journalists Xhevahir Zhabina and Ermal Vija, the high amounts of cocaine seized in Albania recently are the precursor to the arrival of the DEA in Albania.

The DEA team will also further support capacity building in narcotics investigative techniques.

In the meeting that Ambassador Kim held with agent Brendan Leddy, the presence of the DEA in the future in Albania was also discussed.
