Chairman of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, accused Prime Minister Edi Rama of holding hostage the former chief democrat, Lulzim Basha, by closing the file on Russian funding.

In his speech during a virtual conversation with Albanians in Rome, Berisha said that this is already a fact.

“It’s a fact that Lulzim Basha has said, after he had opened the files, for financing that, he himself said in March of 2018, was Russian financing. After he had promised the Albanians that he would go to the end of the investigation, he used the investigation to take the head of the opposition hostage. This is the truth,” – said Berisha.

A few days ago, Berisha emphasized that the $500,000 Russian dollars that the American media said the Democratic Party received in 2017 to lobby in the USA, are proof of his statements that Basha was a hostage.

According to him, now is the time that Basha should come out and give exhaustive explanations on this issue.

Berisha announced the establishment of an investigative group within the party to clarify this issue, but also indicated the problems that hinder the investigation.
