The Minister of the Interior, Bledi Cuci and the former British interior minister, Priti Patel, signed an agreement this August, according to which the deportation procedures for Albanian citizens who had illegally crossed the English Channel would be accelerated.
The accelerated procedure, according to the pact, would also be followed for those who had applied to obtain asylum status.
But the British authorities said in an official statement earlier today, that they cannot enforce this agreement as it conflicts with domestic legislation. The statement was made by the legislative department of the British Home Office, which has responded to a human rights protection organization.
Home Office data show that 53% of Albanians seeking asylum in Great Britain are granted this status. According to activists, the figures confirm that for more than half of Albanians, their homeland is not considered a safe place to live.
