The U.S. and EU react to tensions in northern Kosovo through an appeal to both parties
Earlier today, the US Department of State said that the United States of America and the European Union are working with the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, and the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, to find a political solution to reduce tensions in northern Kosovo.
Furthermore, the statement underlined that the US and the EU welcome the assurances of the leadership of Kosovo, which confirmed that there are no lists for the arrest of Serbian citizens or the persecution of those who protest peacefully. The State Department added that the EU and the US call on both sides to take immediate action in order to reduce tensions.
“At the same time, the rule of law must be respected and any form of violence is unacceptable and will not be tolerated,” the reaction states.
The US and the EU have asked the parties involved to implement “without delay all the obligations of the dialogue” for the normalization of relations, which is mediated by the European bloc.
