The new year has found the country’s hospitals filled with patients seeking specialized treatment. Seasonal viruses are reported to be the reason for the high inflow of patients to hospitals and health centers.
The specialist doctor at QSUT, Besjana Hysi, told Euronews Albania that the usual symptoms in people seeking medical help are high fever, sore throat, and body aches/weakness.
“There has been quite an influx in cases that are considered chronically ill, that have worsened as a result of changing temperatures and seasonal viruses. There was also an overload in terms of high fever and viruses. Generally, it is accompanied by high fever, sore throat, a general weakness, and muscle aches”, said Hysi.
Seasonal viruses are often confused with the signs and symptoms of COVID-19. However, doctors say that they are two different viruses altogether.
“These signs are also present with COVID-19 but it’s a different virus, and we’ve had many cases of patients who showed up with a high fever but after taking the test, came out negative,” said Hysi.
On average, about 245 patients per day come to the emergency department of the QSUT to seek medical assistance.
Doctors call on patients not to go to the emergency room, but to receive treatment at health centers first, if symptoms are not too severe.
