The first hearing for the consideration of the opposition’s request for the removal of the mandate for the Socialist MP and Foreign Minister Olta Xhacka, has wrapped up at the Constitutional Court.

Euronews Albania was able to secure the document where the Foreign Minister asked Prime Minister Rama not to be part of the meeting of the Council of Ministers on March 2, 2022.

In the government meeting on this date, the granting of strategic investor status to the company owned by her husband was discussed.

During the session, the legal representative of Parliament, Erind Merkuri, asked the Court to reject the request of the opposition MPs under the argument that the actions of family members cannot be included in the actions of the MP.

Meanwhile, the opposition has argued in its request that the mandate of the MP of the Socialist Party, Olta Xhacka, should be declared invalid because her husband benefited from public property by being announced as a strategic investor by the Committee headed by Prime Minister Edi Rama.

It is also worth noting that a second session, from another group of Democratic MPs who support Berisha, has started at 1:30 p.m.
