The Democratic Party has reacted regarding the floods in the municipality of Lezha. The MP of this political force in the district, Lindita Metaliaj, stated that currently, 11.2 hectares of land in this municipality are underwater.
According to her, the municipality and the government have not made any investments in this city.
“The city of Lezha is flooded, because the high water channel is also the collector of high water from the streams coming from the mountain in the Spitali neighborhood that then overflow into the Martyrs’ Cemetery, flow into the ‘Beselidhja’ neighborhood, overflowing around 11.2 hectares of land in our city. No compulsory investments have been made, there are inert contents that overflow from the mountain, from the Spitali neighborhood, and there is always chaos there. Even the ambulance can’t go down to the hospital.
On the other side is the white water siphon located in the ‘Strauz’ neighborhood. It is already blocked by numerous constructions, it has not been stopped. So, there are a number of facts and factors that make up this dramatic flood situation that we are currently talking about in the city of Lezha. Another problem is the lack of electricity in the city of Lezha, but also in rural areas. There have been occasional power outages, which have resulted in hydropower not working at full capacity. There have been no investments in hydropower. Whether it’s in the Gocaj reservoir, or in Tale, during the day it has been continuously interrupted, because there is a lack of a second source of energy in these reservoirs”, she emphasized, among other things.
