Journalist Blendi Fevziu made a brief analysis of the local elections set to take place on May 14, during an interview for Euronews Albania.

Fevziu said that the next local elections are not expected to make history. According to him, this is because the DP will not be able to achieve any surprising results.

Fevziu also said that the rift within the DP and the abandonment of the institutions in 2019 are events whose effects the DP will suffer in the next decade.

For DP to return to power, a greater openness is needed than coalitions or its union, said the journalist.

“On May 14, it is very difficult to think that we will see any big changes. The decision that the DP took in 2019 by leaving parliament, as well as abandoning the local elections, will take at least a decade to recover. You know that in Albania, mayors serve long terms, so the law was changed and it was limited that they have the right to stay for only 3 terms. This happens in the world and today it is very difficult to get these municipalities. The situation with the division within the DP does not favor its positive result in the elections. In order to win the 2025 elections, the DP does not have enough power to unite or form a coalition, but it must be open to every element in order to return to power”, said Fevziu.
