Commercial banks in our country have achieved record profits in 2022.
23.8 billion ALL, or 210 million euros, is the value derived by the bank association for the joint profit of all 11 banking institutions in the country, with a 25% increase compared to 2021.
Preliminary estimates from the banking association show that this high rate was influenced by the expansion of assets and the loan portfolio, maintaining the quality of the loan portfolio, but also by the positive effect brought about by the rapid increase in interest rates.
The net loan portfolio, always measured by IFRS standards, reached almost ALL 692 billion, with annual growth of 6.8%. While the ratio of bad loans has been at the lowest historical levels, at 5%.
The profitability of the banking sector has reached higher levels even in relation to the period before the pandemic, a factor that shows the positive performance of the sector, especially in the last two years. According to the structure, 3 out of 11 banks shared 70% of the profits last year, while it is noted that a group of medium-sized banks saw an increase in market performance.
