In the Special Court, the preliminary hearing for Fatmir Mediu will take place today, to decide whether Gërdec’s case will go to trial or not.

Sources for Euronews Albania inform that the families Zamira and Feruzan Durda, who lost their 7-year-old son in the tragedy of Gërdec, have appeared in the Special structure against corruption and the crime of corruption (SPAK).

The development of the session has so far failed twice.

Earlier, former Minister Mediu was not present at the session and was represented by lawyers Ardian Visha and Henrik Ligori.

SPAK has sent for trial the former Minister of Defense, Fatmir Mediu, who is accused of issuing several by-laws in violation of the law in relation to the process of demilitarization and dismantling of ammunition. The process was developed in the premises of the former “Tank Brigade”, in the village of Gërdec, in cooperation with other officials of the Ministry of Defense as well as persons who had the quality of military personnel in command.

According to SPAK, Mediu has harmed the interests of the state and has favored 2 companies, ‘SAC’ and ‘Albademil’. For this matter, he is accused of “abuse of duty” referring to the Criminal Code and “abuse of duty” in cooperation with a military subject-command cadre.
